The Power of a Shared Story

This year I have a class which I love dearly but they also provide me with a multitude of challenges.  As I wrote about in my previous post there are many ways I am dealing with these challenges and while some days are challenging, there are many successes too.  The one thing I have noticed that calms my students more than any other thing  I do (including our mindful breathing) is reading a story to them.  My students LOVE to listen and learn with picture books.   This couldn't make me happier.

What do you find works well to help calm your students down when their bodies are moving so quickly (or slowly) that they are having trouble learning?
